Occupational health (OH) is a field of medical science dealing specifically with work-related injuries and illness. Occupational health regulations mainly deal with the early detection and treatment of health problems resulting from work. One of the main objectives of occupational health regulations is to protect employees from harm, which may come as a result of various accidents such as slips, trips and falls, burns, stress, machinery injuries and more. The regulations also aim to reduce the risks of disability and death in work for those involved in certain tasks. The importance of occupational health in the workplace can hardly be stressed, as it has the power to prevent many serious health issues such as back pain, heart disease, strokes, osteoporosis and other serious diseases, as well as to ensure that the workplace is a safe place to work for everyone.

It is important to note that occupational health is a very broad subject, and encompasses many aspects of work and health. This means that even when a worker is subjected to a health issue at work, he/she should be able to easily understand and claim compensation based upon the nature of the health issue. Compensation claims made under the law will include not only physical injuries but also psychological suffering. For example, if an employee is harmed due to poor ergonomics in the workplace, then he/she should be able to claim compensatory and therapeutic costs. This will help to improve the working environment and therefore, improves productivity.
