An increasingly popular way to spend a special occasion like a birthday, a stag do or even a wedding anniversary is a Tank Driving Experience like those available from https://www.armourgeddon.co.uk/tank-driving-experience.html It is also a very popular choice as a team building excercise for a corporate away day. What can you expect to do on a tank driving experience day?
You are welcomed to the centre with reception drinks and given a tour and history of the vehicle that you are going to be driving. There is also a run through of the considerable health and safety considerations when driving the tank. The general vehicle used is a decommissioned FV432. This was an armoured personnel carrier that saw decades of service in the British army.
The next stage is to be kitted out in tank driving fatigues and a helmet. You are then introduced to your instructor who will run through the controls and then take you around the course to show you the ropes and give a demonstration of what the FV432 can and cannot do.
Then it is your turn! The first lap around the prepared course is taken with the hatch open so that you can see out and have 360 degree vision. The second lap is taken under battle conditions with the seat lowered and the hatch down. You have to drive via periscope.
