North American sitcoms are a very different creation to our British ones. Over here, a series of 6 is considered more than adequate. In the USA it’s more like 30! This kind of high intensity makes for some competitive writing and one show that was at the top of its game for many years was that of Friends. The show features 6 friends living in New York. Ross, Monica, Joey, Rachel, Chandler and Pheobe kept us amused for ten years as we watched them start out as young 20-somethings in 1994 to their early thirties and the next stages of their lives with the shows end in 2004. The shows enduring popularity has given it something of a timeless appeal. It is one of most streamed shows still on Netflix, so much so that they have had to keep buying it. plus it regularly turns up on E4 and Comedy Central.
