The Essential Ingredients for a Perfect Full English Breakfast

The debate over the perfect full English breakfast is something that will always continue – black pudding or not? Do you include chips? How should the eggs be cooked? These are just some of the many points on which people disagree when it comes to constructing the perfect fried breakfast. For those who have watched Alan Partridge, you will know that he takes it seriously enough to make notes on his girlfriend’s efforts at a fried breakfast, with marks out of ten and some pointers for next time!

But there are a few ingredients that everyone will agree are essential when it comes to creating the perfect fry up…

To start with you need a good frying pan – one with a non-stick – or PTFE Coating to be scientific! Without a good frying pan, you will end up with a disaster whatever you do, so this is probably the most important ingredient!

Fried eggs need to have a firm white but a middle that is runny enough to dunk – and of course when you cut into it the yolk needs to burst out like a river – perfect! There are plenty of online guides by top chefs explaining how to cook the perfect egg, they are definitely worth a look.

Sausages are a personal choice, but it is generally accepted that they need to be a little brown and crispy on the outside to make the cut, as well as bacon – some people prefer it to be very well done, so this is also a personal choice, but do be careful as there is nothing worse than a burnt full English breakfast!
