What Does a Mechanic Look For in an Annual Car MOT?

The MOT test is performed by a Gloucester MOT company such as Swiftfit who checks that all the relevant safety elements on a car have been tested and working properly. Once these have been checked, they will allocate a score to the car based on how they are performing as regards those factors. The higher the score, the better the car’s condition and it will be easier to drive the car on the road with no accidents or problems.

The next item that they will look at is the condition of the car engine. They will check that the engine has been kept in good working order throughout the car’s life and that nothing on the engine should mean that it is unsafe. This covers the engine running on fuel and checking that the oil and water levels are at suitable levels. It also covers the spark plugs and any modifications to the engines such as Turbo kits and performance chips.

Tyres are also items that they will look at. A car should not be driven if it has faulty or low tread tyres as this can present a risk to other drivers and people in the road. If a car has faulty or flat tyres, the owner or person who was driving will be liable to pay compensation to anyone who may have been affected by the problem. There are a few other items that need to be verified on a car before it is considered for a MOT. These include the condition of the car’s emissions, it’s lights and electrics, indicators brakes, steering and windows. The car’s bodywork is also scrutinised.
