How Are Patients Recruited For Clinical Trials?

The answer to this question is rather complicated, but the process of how clinical trials are recruited is an important one. The people who will be taking the drugs under study are carefully selected by the investigators who oversee the clinical trials. They are carefully screened for any existing medical conditions and then monitored rigorously so that they do not have any adverse reactions to the drugs being given to them. If any problems occur during the course of the treatment, the trial investigators are required by law to report them. This information is then passed on to the pharmaceutical companies whose drugs are being tested in the clinical trial. Find out more about Adaptive Phase 1 Clinical Studies at Richmond Pharmacology

How are patients recruited for clinical trials? One way is by word of mouth. Many people who are interested in taking part in a medical research trial will be happy to talk about it with friends and family. People will also be encouraged to talk to their physicians about the trials, particularly those they are undergoing or have already been through. These physicians may well know of someone who they think might be a good candidate and be able to refer them to the correct place or contact the investigators directly.

Another way how patients are recruited for clinical trials is through specialised media, such as radio and TV programmes. There are several pharmaceutical companies who are active in creating adverts to promote medical research.
